Why are heat-applied flexible badges only available in a matte finish?
Flexible badges with heat-applied (iron-on) backing are available only in a matte finish.
The reason is durability.
Our matte flexible badges are made using a color-through material, meaning the color extends throughout the badge. This construction stands up well to the heat and moisture involved in applying the badge to a garment and during repeated laundering.
Shiny flexible badges use a thin metallic surface layer to create their reflective appearance. While attractive, that metallic layer can be damaged by the repeated heat, water, and agitation of commercial laundering. Over time, it may begin to peel or separate from the badge.
Because many heat-applied badges are intended for uniforms that are washed frequently, we offer the matte finish to provide the best long-term performance.
If your application doesn't require heat application, other backing and finish options may be available.
